Gunbuster Top o Nerae! ... what is it ?

First of all, let's explain the title: "Gunbuster Top o Nerae!" can be literally translated into "Gunbuster, Aim for the Top!".
Gunbuster is a series composed of six OAVs realized by GAINAX studios in 1988; it's available in USA (and in the rest of the world too) only in subtitled version.
It's an hard task to establish which kind of anime Gunbuster belongs to: at first sight it could be considered a robotic series as Gunbuster is the name of a mecha, but of course that's a shallow and hasty choice; Gunbuster is also a romantic-sentimental series, even if it also contains action, it's science-fiction, it's drama... well... Gunbuster is Gunbuster ^_^ and to explain the meaning of this statement is the reason of my site!

The Plot

Gunbuster Top o Nerae! starts with the forthcoming selection of the two girls that will go to the space and fight to protect the Earth; mankind has to face the risk of being completely destroyed by strange aliens aiming to eliminate humans in order to remain alive themselves.
Noriko Takaya and Kazumi Amano are choosen and together with coach Ota set off the mission reaching the spaceship Exelion. Starting from the early missions in space, described in the first episodes, everybody can understand what the real enemy of Noriko and Kazumi is, apart from the aliens: time. One of the most upsetting (wonderfull according to me) elements of Gunbuster Top o Nerae! is the fact that its creators took into consideration the theory of relativity according to which time flows differently if you move very fast, near the light's speed; Noriko and Kazumi reach that speed many times and this will heavily influence their lives.
While sentimental problems come with technical and scientific ones, mankind goes on with her space campaign against aliens... Many unexpected turns of events will involve Noriko Takaya, noble heroine that will influence the world's history of the next milleniums...

I'm aware that I've said little about Gunbuster's plot; now I'm going to give you a view of the site's structure. Doing this, I'd like to advise you of some pages of the site that contain spoilers, i.e. anticipations about key points of the show, so that everyone of you willing not to know anything crucial can avoid these "dangerous" informations and fully enjoy the show.
A standard trip here at my site should of course include the reading of the following sections: "Characters", "Images", "Multimedia" and "Science". You must notice, instead, that "Comments" and "Episodes" sections contain a lot of spoiler, even if "Comments" has many considerations, reflections, etc. you should read to understand why Gunbuster Top o Nerae! is to be considered a real masterpiece of animation.
